We will do more Spring clean up. There are a number of plants that need to be thinned and will be available for you to take home. These include Downy skullcap (Scutellaria incana), White sage (Artemisia ludoviciana), Squaw-weed (Packera (Senecio) obovata), Devil's walking stick (Aralia spinosa), Silky dogwood (Cornus amomum) and others that will become apparent as we work through the beds. If you want to take plants home, bring your own container. Also bring garden gloves, hand trowel and pruners (small or large) if you have them, and water for the plants (even a milk jug full helps) if you can. There is no water available here. There will be some tools available to loan. We will begin to do an inventory of our plants and locations to have a garden map. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other native plant enthusiasts and share information.

Yard Tour
Public Welcome Family Friendly Free Event Home Garden Tour
Come to the South end of town to see the prairie plantings and mixed native and ornamental landscaping at the home of Vance Clearwater. Vance is also a rock hound and has created a beautiful rock hardscape to show off his plants. Hopefully the liatris will be in bloom in the prairie that was burned this year, but as Vance cautions, "plants have their own schedules". Vance's house is located at 5215 S. Cowan Rd. You can park on the road.

Alison has been adding plants for some years now to areas/beds she's established and many are doing well. I would love advice about several areas: our "dry" rain garden, plants under our deck, and a terrible patch with poison ivy and bush honeysuckle (bordering our property but untended). And maybe how to work around a neighbor who sprays chemicals!
We want to nurture wildlife and have seen the effects of native plantings in a veritable explosion of birds and pollinators in recent years. My Big Question, what more can we do to further their interests?
Park in the driveway or on the street in front of our house.

Ann & Mike Wakeman's prairie & woodland garden, 5798 Windy Meadows Ln, Fulton, MO, 65251 Map
Public Welcome Free Event Home Garden Tour Lots of Physical Activity
Ann and Mike have about 11 acres. Ann worked for Merv in the 1980’s when they started to kill the pasture grasses in sections and seed in natives. Ann installed a semi-formal woodland garden under the trees in the yard around the house. They bought the neighboring house about 25 years ago so their parents would have a nice place for their last years. They converted that whole front yard and
acreage. Ann will interpret the evolution and management of each area. Dress for the weather, use chigger repellant, bring water.
Bek’s in Fulton has great food for a reasonable price if you want to go there for lunch.

When creating and managing thriving habitats for native bees, many factors such as seasonal phenology, nesting strategies, and flower preferences must be considered—and with approximately 3,600 species in North America (north of Mexico), there are many unique aspects to keep in mind when managing successful landscapes for bees.
